The  10th  EUROGAMES  at  Utrecht  in  2005

The city of Utrecht in the Netherlands hosts the 10th European Gay and Lesbian Sports Championships from June 16th through 19th 2005. For the first time there will be also a field hockey tournament during the Euro-games. The lively Gay and Lesbian community of Utrecht hopes to make this midsummer weekend unforgettable for the sports men and women and others that will participate in this jubilee sportive and cultural event.

The EuroGames has become a high-quality sports and cultural event of the gay and lesbian community in Europe. Above this we have something special with the jubilee games. Therefore we have chosen the theme "midsummer Sports, your fairy tale comes true'. The city of Utrecht in the Netherlands hosts the first Gay and Lesbian PinkHockey Championships from June 15 - 19 2005.

Approximately 2.900 participants display their skills in 11 sports: Swimming, Volleyball, Badminton, Ballroom dancing, Football, Tennis, Running, Hockey, Aerobics, squash and Skating. Because Field Hockey is not one of the sports selected by the organisations of both Montréal 2006 and Chicago 2006 it will be the only sport during the EuroGames 2005 witch is open for hockey players from all over the world and not only the Europeans.

The beautiful medieval city Utrecht has all the assets the 10th EuroGames needs.

  • The fourth city of the Netherlands with over 260,000 inhabitants is centrally located and easy to reach by plane, train and car from all over Europe.
  • Utrecht is within 45 minutes of reach by train from other mayor cities in the Netherlands, like Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den Haag.
  • The city just opened the largest indoor sports centre in the country which enables the organisation to centralise nearly every sport in one centre.
  • The flourishing Gay and Lesbian community of Utrecht have very experienced people to organise this event.
  • The city has a large number of hotel rooms, camping sites and other accommodations. Hosted housing will be arranged centrally.

About  PinkHockey

PinkHockey was launched to give every Gay, Lesbian or bisexual field hockey player a chance to be him- or herself on and around the field hockey pitch - in every sense of the word. PinkHockey maintains contacts with other (gay, lesbian or regular) field hockey organisations, sports organisations and federations and continues to attract more PinkHockey players.

The International Gay & Lesbian Field Hockey Federation (I.G.L.F.H.F.), or simply PinkHockey, was founded following the Sydney Gay Games in 2002. We are currently trying to gather interested players from all countries to set up more gay/lesbian field hockey teams.

PinkHockey now counts among its member’s players from England, Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Scotland, USA, Belgium, Kenya, Romania and Argentina.

Why become a member of PinkHockey? Simple: because there is more to life than just your particular personal situation and besides, it is always nice to play hockey with like-minded people, especially when they come from different parts of the world. Furthermore, PinkHockey members occasionally benefit from discounts for tournaments. Join us for free practice sessions, get-togethers, nights out and tournaments all over the world.

Everyone is welcome to join PinkHockey - gay, lesbian, bisexual, straight, makes no difference. The colour of your skin, hair or eyes as well as your religion, beliefs, race, age, gender or the way you want to dress or choose to live are not an issue, as long you are a field hockey player or a fan of the game you are more than welcome to join.

It is not important whether you are a good hockey player or just a beginner. Enjoyment is the most important requirement. We intend to compete in several tournaments each year, with our main aim being to compete at the Euro Games, Gay Games and Outgames.
