The Bentstix Boomerangs

Boomerang, an Aboriginal name for a wooden shaped object used for hunting. A powerful weapon, it is thrown a great distance before returning to its rightful place. In this case we are travelling a great distance with a newer version of a curved stick, thanks to fibreglass/graphite and plan to collect a gold souvenir along the way. The boomerangs bring together a spirited team mixed with the youth and the not so youthful, the experienced and the not so experienced. A collection of men made up of seasoned campaigners from the Sydney Gay Games and the addition of fresher "aussie blood". Some are seeking revenge for a loss experienced 4 years ago, some for the participation, and others for the adventures off field. As a team we travel to form new mateships and to experience the culture and hospitality that The Netherlands and Europe has to offer. We look forward to the competition in the true spirit of the games and to enjoy the atmosphere that is going to be on offer at the Euro Gay Games 2005. We thank the Dutch and their fellow Europeans for the opportunity to compete on their soil.

Final  ranking : WINNER

Charme on Tour

"charme on tour" was founded in 2001 with the aim to be a part of the GayGames 2002 in Sydney. In the end 9 german ladies did travel to Australia, but we could recrute 4 more Australian and 2 Swiss girls (who never played hockey in their live) for our team. Coming in first and therefore winning gold was a great experience and for most of our team their first gold ever. The impressions of the Sydney Games, the fun we had at the hockey pitch but also at other sports grounds and all around the city were made to remember all of our lives.

In 2004 on the occasion of the EuroGames in Munich we organized the first PinkHockey ladies day which was pretty smal, but also remarkeble as we met the Dutch Divas for the first time.

For Utrecht we found new members for the team and hopefully created a good mixture between old and very old, out of training and very out of training, charming and very charming. The EuroGames 2005 will be the first time after 2002 that we come together again as a team . There will be 6 golden Girls and 6 PinkHockey greenhorns in action. Mostly it will be about meeting people and having fun, but a little bit about winning as well... :-)

Final  ranking : WINNER

Inittowinit

This is the team that made history: the first ever Dutch Gay Field Hockey Team to take part in a hockey tournament in the Netherlands, and the very first field hockey team ever to win a gold medal in the history of Gay Sports. The name says a lot: we came to the 2002 Sydney Gay Games to take part, and to win - and win we did. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

xml:namespace prefix = o />

The Sydney Hockey Tournament was small in scale, but huge in its ambitions and its spirit. The setting and organisation were impeccable, using the awe-inspiring Olympic Field Hockey Stadium for the matches. Referees, umpires, pitch assistants - everything was of the highest order. And so were the matches, fought over five days in fierce temperatures, concluded with a thrilling final for a largely orange-clad crowd. The sheer friendship extended to us by our Australian hosts, who had gone out of their way to make us feel welcome, was heartwarming and humbling. We hope to repay them for their many kindnesses and their splendid organization in Utrecht, 2005.

But as for the gold: that's another matter. We are ready to defend our title.

Final  ranking : SECOND

Hollands Glorie

Hollands Glorie, a glorious team with courage of a lion. This team was set up just for the occasion, inexperienced but passionate and highly talented, ready to astonish hockey-loving gays from all over the world. Rumour has it, that this vigorous team refuses deliberately to train before the championships. They are confidently looking forward to surprise their opponents and themselves and triumph at their début.

xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

xml:namespace prefix = o />

xml:namespace prefix = o />

Hollands Glorie is provided with lightning fast forward players, a superb playing midfield, a defence as strong as iron and a never failing goalie. These fearless heroines are ready for show off and determined to win. They will dance fleet-footed on the water field, confuse every opponent with subtle moves, surprise attacks and brilliant goals. It’s a feast for the eyes, to see them combining striking tactics with their unequalled charm. Good on the field, even better off the field. This is probably the most ingenious and elegant team that has ever won a tournament. Hockey players be warned. We challenge you...

Final  ranking : SECOND

Bentstix Cockatoos

If you want to play a great team during the Euro Games, then this is the one to meet on the pitch. We are very competitive, but we are also like to have a good time while we are winning. Cockatoos are very social hockey players. We are used to heavy interaction with others of our species. We are also very intelligent breed and require lots of stimulation, like most healthy Cockatoos!

Our team of Cockatoos is made up of mainly Australians living in Sydney, Melbourne and the UK, with a mixture of cultural backgrounds including Italian, Korean, Singaporean and a New Zealander. So when we get together there can be a lot of noise! We are pleased the Board of the Euro Games 2005 has included field hockey for the first time in the Euro Games and thank them for having the vision to do this. We are very happy to accept the wonderful opportunity to compete in Utrecht during the Euro Games.

When we walk away with the Gold Medal we will be even more grateful, but in the meantime, if you see a Cockatoo around Utrecht playing his heart out don’t forget to say cheer him on and say hello!! He’ll be so glad you did… After all what would life be like without a Cock-a-too!

Final  ranking :    THIRD

Bentstix Platypuss

Hello Europe, we are the Platypuss' from Bentstix Australia! We are thrilled to be part of your Games! Our team includes Aussie girls with a dash of international extras. The team is truly multi-cultural - just like Australia.

Several players participated in the 2002 Sydney Gay Games and were eager to travel to Utrecht to participate in this fabulous event.

xml:namespace prefix = o />

"Platypuss" derives from one of our lesser-known native animals: the Platypus. This small primitive aquatic, burrowing animal is best described as "Queer...but strangely attractive!" We definitely don't bite and look forward to meeting with you in Utrecht to say "G'day."!

Final  ranking :    THIRD

N’ joystiX

Enjoy plus Sticks, but it is actually a mix of joysticks altogether. In 2004 PinkHockey became more Popular that it became time for a 2nd and much younger team. The B team (and the B stands for the Best) was brought to live. With plenty varioutis of character and nationalities like; Swiss, German/American with Philippine background, Argentinian, some a bit Spanish, Surinamese and South African. There are real Dutchmen and even some sweet Brabantders. Our motto is socialness and enjoyment. During all the exercises we now know where the goal from our opponent is. We now only have to find a way how to get there and score. But be warned; we will prove ourselves during the PinkHockey championships. Some boys, like Charles, Bas and Giorgio have a very long Hockey history and have played on a hige level. Others are polishing up their talent and technical skills after a few years break. Dring the PinkHockey championships "adultery" will be our commitment and weapon, only Jan Willem will keep it as "Playing hard to get." We will see, how the balls will roll.

Final  ranking : FOURTH

Dutch Hockey Divas

“Have you heard that they’re looking for hockey players for a pink Dutch women’s team?”. That tip from a friend is how it all started for me (Annelies) and I suspect many others. I got in touch with Ellis, the pioneering force behind all our activities; there was a “mini meeting” in a café in Den Bosch; then notices appeared on various websites and magazines. We checked out the games in Munich and continued building our own teams. At a get together in café De Wijn in Tilburg we were offered the services of volunteer water carriers, a masseuse and all sorts of other assistance. Suddenly and unexpectedly we had three teams and it seemed that another completely unknown team had registered for Utrecht!

xml:namespace prefix = o />

xml:namespace prefix = o />

Helllp!!! But we figured that there are always some people who drop out and it’s nice to have plenty of reserve players. This goes for administration as well and luckily Petra was able to take over this task from Ellis. The first stormy training session (the weather!) had to be hastily redefined as a strategy session, but the second one was both fun and fanatical and due to popular demand an extra practice was arranged for shortly after. By the time you are reading this we’ll be ready…. and we’re going for gold…. The Dutch Hockey Diva’s, the one and only!
