Who are we ??

Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Field Hockey Club Association Incorporated was established in February 1996 during the Mardi Gras Festival. At this time we formed the first Gay and Lesbian Field Hockey Club in the world. The Club is active mainly in the summer, when we play in a mixed (male and female) field hockey competition at Little Bay as part of the University of NSW competition.

The Bentstix is member of Team Sydney and PinkHockey, a worldwide network for GLBT field hockey players. PinkHockey is member of the GLISA & EGLSF

We have approximately 50 members. Each year during Mardi Gras we run the Australian PinkHockey Championship tournament.

What do we do ??

- Bentstix fields 2 mens teams in the Sydney Hockey Association Winter Competition. In 2009, we also want to field a Women's team so contact us if you're keen!

- Matches are usually played Saturday afternoon or evening and sometimes Sunday afternoon.

- Training is at 6:30pm on Monday evenings (from 30 March) at Kyeemagh Hockey Field, Kyeemagh. Fitness training sessions are also held at 7pm on Wednesday evenings (from 1 April) at Alan Davidson Oval, Sydney Park.

- Providing opportunities for Gay & Lesbian people to play competitive field hockey in an accepting and supportive environment

- Fostering pride in our achievements as we represent Sydney in tournaments in Australia and abroad

- Promoting gay and lesbian field hockey both locally and internationally in an effort to build participation worldwide.

Everyone is welcome to join our club, as long you are a field hockey player or a fan of the game you are more than welcome to join. It is not important whether you are a good hockey player or just a beginner. Enjoyment is the most important requirement

Our rich history !!

We became very active during the Sydney Gay Games in 2002 and were responsible for field hockey being included in the program. 10 teams participated from around the world. After the success of the event we formed the Gay and Lesbian International Field Hockey Federation and have begun starting recruiting throughout Europe, North and South America. This will eventually include Asia, the Pacific and India / Pakistan.

We aim to provide opportunities for Gay and Lesbians to play competitive field hockey in an accepting and supportive environment. We also aim to foster pride in our achievements as we represent Sydney in tours and tournaments in Australia and abroad. Finally we aim to promote gay and lesbian field hockey both locally and internationally in an effort to build participation world wide.

The Dutch team who came out for the 2002 Gay Games have been responsible for including field hockey in the Euro Games 2005 in Utrecht Holland. Bentstix took 2 men's and one women's team to Holland. We won the Gold Medal and Bronze Medals in the Men's Competition and the Bronze Medal in the Women's competition. It was a great success for the Club. This tournament also double as the first ever PinkHockey World Championships from which were crowned the Mens PinkHockey World Champions.

PinkHockey tournaments all over the world

We intend to compete in several tournaments, with our main aim being to compete at the Euro Games, Gay Games and Outgames. During this PinkHockey tournaments participants are welcomed from all over the world to join not only the PinkHockey tournament, but especially the social aspects and the parties during this events.

The next PinkHockey tournament will take place in Wellington during the 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames. in March 2011. Field hockey will be one of the many sports which will be organized during this event. In total we expect 7,500 participants to join the Games
